About Phoebe Phoebe is the foundation of my breeding
program, here at Sheffield Goldens... and, of course, she is the light
of our lives. She was bred by Helen Dorrance of Ducat Goldens, who,
7 short years ago, made me "an offer I couldn't refuse", and without
whose help and support, I could never have accomplished all that I have.
Phoebe is a daughter of Tristan (Ch. Asterling Go Getm Gangbuster
SDHF, OS) and Bebe (Ducat Lobi Tatum's Hot Shot) and I feel she possesses
the best attributes of both her dad and mom. Phoebe began both her show and field
careers while still a puppy, taking her first point at 6 months, her
first time in the breed ring. Now, at just over 7 yrs. of age, she has
accomplished more than most dogs do in a lifetime. Phoebe finished
her championship and had attained her JH & WC by age 2. After a
break to whelp her only litter, she began training for both her CD and
SH under the loving and capable guidance of her trainer & handler,
Roger Thurman. In the spring of '97, she finished not only her
CD & SH, but also her CDX, which qualified her as a VCX. Phoebe
possesses keen intelligence, stability, an incredible biddability and
desire to please which has made training her a pleasure for both myself
and Roger. Phoebe has proven herself in many fields of endeavor, including
the whelping box. While she only had 1 litter, the accomplishments of
her kids have made us all proud. Her daughter, Rumour (CH Sheffield-Ducat's
Suspicion, JH) finished her championship by 13 months and by the age
of 2 had accrued 22 1/2 SDHF points, taking multiple Group 1sts
by 18 months of age. Roo is now achieving success in both the field
and obedience areas, also. Her son, Strider (BISS CH Sheffield-Ducat's
Spellbound SDHF) finished his championship by 14 months and achieved
SDHF status by 27 months, reaching the ranking of #4 Golden in the spring
of '96. In very limited showing as a special, he made the GRReview Top
20 for the past 2 years. Another littermate, Rainey (Ducat-Sheffield's
NXNW), made the final cut of 8 at the 1996 GRCA National Specialty and
is being shown toward her championship this spring. While her kids have
been successful, the most rewarding fact has been that they inherited
the same gentle, intelligent, confident and willing temperament their
mom possesses. None shows any form of aggression... either to people
or other dogs. Phoebe now enjoys life in her rightful
place as my foundation bitch. She enjoys playing with her kids and grand
kids and who knows? She may decide that 5 titles aren't enough! But,
if not... she will still grace our home as the reigning queen, here
at Sheffield Goldens, and she will always be #1 in our hearts.
